New beyondblue Resources

Approximately 65,000 Australians attempt suicide each year. These individuals can experience a range of physical, psychological, emotional and social challenges following the event and are at much higher risk of a further attempt or death by suicide.  Many of the issues faced by someone who has attempted suicide, such as feelings of guilt, shame and confusion can also be shared by close family, friends and carers. However, few resources are presently available for either group of people.

beyondblue has partnered with the Hunter Institute of Mental Health to review the evidence, consult with health stakeholders and people with a personal experience of suicide to develop ‘The way back’ resources, a practical guide for those who have attempted suicide and their family, friends and supporting networks. (Please click on either cover image to view the full trial version of each resource).

A trial of the distribution of resources is commencing in a small number of hospital and community mental health settings in New South Wales and the Northern Territory.

Feedback about the resources is now being sought from sector stakeholders and we would greatly appreciate a few minutes of your time to complete a short questionnaire.

Your feedback will be used to identify how the resources could be improved and to inform recommendations about national dissemination of the resources. The full Stakeholder Information Statement details this component of the project.

If you would like a hard copy of one or both of the resources, please email suicideprevention@beyondblue.org.au.

‘The way back’ resources have been funded through donations received from The Movember Foundation.
